Louisiana Security Guard Requirements
Louisiana currently mandates that to become a professional security guard you must be licensed through the company hiring you. Licensing does not transfer from one company to another. The Louisiana private security examiners board states:
Security Officers generally provide the following: Guard, patrol, or monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules. To obtain a license in this field one must have 16 hours of classroom and initial firearms instruction, and take a refresher course that is required annually.
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- No diagnosed mental illness
- No felonies or criminal convections
- Pass a drug screening test
- US citizen or registered resident alien
- Fingerprint submission
- Complete 16 hours of classroom training
- Armed Security Guards may require firearm training
